When you have multi-step job (let's say two steps: build & deploy) in Jenkins then status field in Jenkins API will have some value after 1 step finish it's execution. Later, if 2nd step will fail, build["status"] will be FAILED despite on being SUCCESS after 1st step. So, the proper way to detect build outcome is via build["building"] == true.
